An AC load bank is a piece of electrical test equipment used to simulate an electrical load, to test an electric power source without connecting it to its normal operating load. During testing, adjustment, calibration, or verification procedures, a load bank is connected to the output of a power source, such as an electric generator or battery. The load bank can be used to test the power source's ability to provide power at its rated capacity. Load banks are also used for testing uninterruptible power supplies (UPS), turbines, engines, and other AC power sources.
Load bank types:The pure resistive load bank includes 2 load types regarding its load voltage types: pure resistive 1phase & 3phase AC load bank & pure resistive DC load bank.
The pure resistive AC load bank outputs active load power only without the reactive power, The pure resistive AC load bank is capable to go by 3phase balance & unbalance loading test which meets clients’ different testing purpose. Load bank full power on/off is also a key function to test the power source on/off heavy load capability.
The pure resistive AC load bank digital meter testing each phase voltage, current, active power, power factor, reactive power & apparent power. The load bank load voltage & load current detected by the digital meter, and if the voltage & current exceed the preset value, the load bank digital meter will convert its NO contact to NC contact, activate the protection diagram, indicate over voltage/current alarm & protection with load removed automatically. A temperature sensor is also needed in case of load bank over temperature loading, to make sure the control system contactor, PLC, relay and its conducting wires always working in a good temperature condition.
It is very important to make sure fan always work normally to cool huge heat during loading test, so a digital meter to detect fan working voltage & current is needed. Alarm & load removed protection activated as soon as load bank fan low current and over voltage running.
Load bank fuse and circuit breaker protection is also essential for each load step, could provide the over current protection if any short circuit happens
Load bank control modesThe load bank has 2 control modes: either by local panel control or PC software remote control, 2 modes interlocked. The load bank communication by RS232, RS485, LAN, CAN. JUNXY series AC/DC load bank remote control communication protocol would be provided for clients’ integrating the load bank into the ATE system.
